ChatGPT on WhatsApp

This one changed completely in 2026, and where you live decides the answer. Meta barred general-purpose AI assistants from the WhatsApp Business Platform on 15 January 2026, and ChatGPT left. The European Commission opened an antitrust case, and after Meta's paid-access compromise was judged commercially unviable, ordered access restored on the pre-October 2025 terms — free. OpenAI brought ChatGPT back across the European Economic Area on 13 July 2026. Outside the EEA it remains unavailable. Either way the limit is the same one it always had: it is a conversation, not a connected assistant — no OAuth access to your inbox, calendar or CRM, so it can advise but not execute.

What to compare before connecting your accounts

Every product on this page says “AI assistant”. Four questions separate the ones you can trust with your inbox from the ones you can’t.

Actions, not claims

Ask for the exact operations it performs — send an email, move a meeting, update a CRM record, share a Drive file — and which permission each one needs. “Works with Gmail” can mean read-only summaries. OwlAgent lists its operations per tool on the integrations page.

Permissions and revocation

Connections should go through the provider’s own OAuth consent screen, scoped to what the assistant needs, and be revocable from your Google or Microsoft account in one click. Never type a password into WhatsApp; a product that asks for one has no OAuth integration.

Data hosting and retention

What happens when it isn’t sure
